“Women and those who love and support them are interested in justice, in making what is wrong, right, in making what is full of fear and hatred, full of freedom and love.” -Claire
Claire K. McKeever-Burgett, M.Div.
Claire hails from the dry plains of West Texas, and though she has lived in Washington, D.C., Austin, Louisiana, and—since 2013—Nashville, she still proudly claims Texas as home. A graduate of Baylor University with a degree in English and Professional Writing, she began her career at Sojourners magazine, supporting Jim Wallis' New York Times bestselling book tour for God’s Politics. She later worked in Austin’s sustainable food movement before earning her Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School in 2011.
An author, creative contemplative, and spiritual leader, Claire has devoted her life to bridging spirituality and social justice. She has served as clergy, led congregations, and facilitated transformative writing, movement, and liturgical practices rooted in healing, embodiment, and liberation. A mother, certified birth and postpartum doula, and instructor of yoga, dance, and martial arts, Claire lives with her family in Nashville, Tennessee.
Her debut book, Blessed Are the Women: Naming and Reclaiming Women’s Stories from the Gospels, reimagines the voices and names of women in the Gospels and weaves them with her own story of growing up as a woman with vision and voice in a conservative, Southern Baptist, male-dominated world. Through prayer, dance, song, and creative practice, Claire invites readers to center women’s wisdom, heal from religious and theological harm, and discover a spacious, reimagined, woman-led faith.
Claire’s sophomore book, In the Beginning Were the Women, uncovers the matriarchs, prophets, and wisdom-keepers who shaped our sacred story--and the Mother God who empowered them. Claire K. McKeever-Burgett offers a fresh way of seeing faith, one that heals old wounds and opens new paths to justice, liberation, and belonging. This is your invitation to discover the divine feminine and claim your place in God’s unfolding story of love.
